On May 6, the UC Riverside College of Natural & Agricultural Sciences (CNAS) welcomed agricultural educators from across Riverside County for a day of learning, discussion, and exploration centered on the future of agriculture, sustainability, and science education.
The visit included a tour of UCR’s Agricultural Operations, where teachers learned more about the university’s historic connection to California agriculture and ongoing research efforts tied to food systems, water management, plant sciences, and sustainability.
Educators also participated in a faculty-led session featuring researchers and academic leaders from across CNAS, including representatives from entomology, environmental sciences, plant sciences, and science education programs. Faculty shared how undergraduate students at UCR engage in hands-on research experiences ranging from agricultural biotechnology and invasive species management to water quality monitoring and sustainability-focused community partnerships.
Throughout the discussions, faculty emphasized the importance of connecting scientific research with real-world challenges facing California and the Inland Empire, including water conservation, food security, agricultural innovation, and environmental sustainability.
The visit also created space for conversations about strengthening pathways between K–12 education and higher education, including opportunities for future collaboration, student outreach, and teacher engagement.
The event reflects CNAS’ ongoing commitment to building partnerships with local educators and helping connect classroom learning with the scientific research and agricultural innovation taking place at UC Riverside.
CNAS welcomes opportunities to connect with local schools and educators. For information about campus tours, workshops, classroom outreach, or student panels, please contact CNAS Communications at cnascommunications@ucr.edu.
