What CNAS Loves About Science...

We recently asked some of our Science Ambassadors what they love most about science. Here's what they had to say:

"One of my favorite things about science is that it is forever reproducible and ongoing. Scientific research is always inspiring new ideas, and allows scientists to reproduce experiments and potentially discover something new. Science is also very inclusive and interdisciplinary, allowing different researchers to answer a question or pose a new one for others to help answer. For example, Hershey & Chase, Watson & Crick, and Rosalind Franklin all contributed to the discovery of the structure of DNA. With each discovery in science, we help someone else understand our process so they can reproduce and expand on the research."

"I love the feeling of satisfaction that comes with learning scientific concepts. Whether it's chemistry, biology, or physics, the moment when a tough concept 'clicks' is one-of-a-kind. From a broader perspective, science is crucial for our society to advance our health and well-being. Equally important is the fact that science is a brilliant conduit through which to satiate our natural urge to discover more of the unknown."

"I love how science helps us make sense of the world around us! There is so much we still don't know, but science allows us to be curious and find answers to the questions we have. There are so many different fields within science, and each field allows you to be creative in various ways. I love that it generates answers for us that allow us to deepen our understanding about the systems and processes happening unacknowledged around us."

"I love making new discoveries! I am a hands-on learner, and applying what I learn in lecture courses to labs allows me to better grasp the concepts! I love seeing a reaction unfold and getting to a positive product. The discipline and patience that lab work takes is something that I love to do."

"I love science because it gives us answers to questions about the world with evidence. I love the range of science - experiments can be so simple or complex, and the end result should always teach us something. I love that science is applicable and related to everything, from the way that roads are tarred to school start times. Science drives society's progression, and aims to improve human life."

"I love that, although there is a definitive answer or theory, there are many ways to end up at the conclusion. Science almost always has a right answer, but that does not mean that one cannot challenge an idea. We live in a time where this is possible because we can conduct experiments to back up any idea or theory we come up with. Science is always evolving, and it never gets boring!"

"What I love most about science is that it is able to explain the most complex structures and processes based on facts and knowledge that were proven by someone who began making discoveries just by being curious. I appreciate the hard work and dedication by the scientists who came before me who worked tirelessly to conduct groundbreaking research, which has continued to expand our knowledge of science. I love learning how things work, and science allows me to achieve my goal of learning more and more every day. I believe that it is important for people to recognize how science has the ability to validate and prove many controversial theories, and I am proud be part of that process."
