A Message from the Dean

Hello there! 

Welcome to the UC Riverside College of Natural & Agricultural Sciences!

My name is Peter Atkinson, and I serve as the Interim Dean of the College. I'm also a geneticist whose research focuses on developing and implementing genetic control strategies in pest insects. 

I've been at UC Riverside since 1997, and it is my great pleasure to welcome you to our scientific community, where our mission is to transform lives through discovery, communication, translation, application and preservation of knowledge.

At CNAS, you'll encounter world-renowned scholars and scientists working to understand the universe we live in while improving the quality of life for inhabitants of the state, the nation, and the world. You'll participate in cutting-edge research with CNAS faculty members and be introduced to our numerous student success resources through our Learning Communities. You won't just learn science as a CNAS student...you'll also actively prepare yourself for the career you choose while developing skills that will enable you to change the world.

I invite you to utilize the CNAS admitted student webpage as a resource in the weeks ahead to learn more about all that CNAS has to offer. Also, don't forget to check your inbox for copies of our admitted student newsletter, which contain helpful information about how to submit your Statement of Intent to Register. 

I also hope to see you on campus during our Highlander Day open house programs for admitted students and families. You'll not only get to explore campus, you'll have the opportunity to tour CNAS, attend information sessions, and interact with current CNAS faculty, students and staff. We also hope you'll join us for Ask CNAS, an interactive virtual webinar series designed to help you learn more about CNAS from the students themselves. 

From our 17 majors and vast research opportunities to our warm, friendly, supportive academic community, I think you'll find there's a lot to love about CNAS! Congratulations again on your admission to UC Riverside. I can't wait to see you on campus this fall!
