Kenneth W. Gilstrap

Kenneth W. Gilstrap (November 25, 1947 – December 11, 2011) was born in Fresno, California and lived all of his life in the Fresno area. He graduated from Roosevelt High School in Fresno and earned an Associate of Science degree in Air Conditioning from Fresno City College. After graduating from high school, Ken began driving trucks for a living, eventually driving 20 years for Yellow Freight Lines; in 2005 he retired from Yellow Freight Lines.

Ken always had an inquiring mind and spent much of his free time learning about the natural history of the Fresno area and the nearby Sierra Nevada Mountains. He especially enjoyed learning the natural history of insects. Ken lived his life with an enormous energy and a love for life, and he routinely shared his incredibly infectious good humor.

Upon his passing, Ken’s brother Frank Gilstrap and his sister Marilyn McLaughlin, established the Kenneth W. Gilstrap Memorial Fund in Ken’s honor to serve as a perpetual legacy that honors Ken and his long-standing interest in all things scientific, and especially his keen interest in the natural history of insects.
