CNAS faculty make big gains in new grants and contracts

The College of Natural and Agricultural Sciences has led the UCR campus in the percentage of increase in funds from grants and contracts this year, with a 36% increase over last year, according to data provided by the Office of Research. In FY2010, which ended June 30, the college received $64,057,581 as a result of 726 submitted proposals, whereas in FY2009 the college received $47,212,701. By contrast, in FY2010 the rest of the UCR campus received $49,624,101 from 502 submitted proposals, 14% more than its FY2009 total of $43,483,128.

“This is the toughest granting climate in my career,” said CNAS Dean Thomas Baldwin. “To have such a large year-to-year increase is clear evidence of the enormous effort being put forward by our world-class faculty.”

The campus as a whole submitted 1,228 proposals and received $113,681,682 in grants and contracts in FY2010, a 25% increase over the preceding year.
