Water center director publishes book on water policy

Ariel DinarAriel Dinar, a professor of environmental economics and policy and the director of UCR’s Water Science and Policy Center (WSPC), is a member of a team that recently wrote a book about the enormous challenges that California faces as it struggles to adapt its water management system to 21st century conditions.  Titled “Managing California’s Water: From Conflict to Reconciliation,” the book was released last month. As the state’s population continues to grow and urbanize, the demands for urban water supply, reliable water quality, and flood protection are increasing. Moreover, California faces the uncertainties of a changing climate, affecting critical decisions in water management. Dinar and his coauthors argue in the book that to avoid continued environmental and economic deterioration, California needs to make significant changes in water policy.  Besides Dinar, experts from UC Davis, the Public Policy Institute of California (PPIC), UC Hastings College of the Law and Stanford University contributed content to the book.  WSPC received some funding from PPIC for the project.
