Consuelo BeecherChemistry Graduate Student Receives 2013 SACNAS Award

Consuelo Beecher, a UCR Chemistry graduate student working with Professor Cindy Larive, has received a 2013 Society for the Advancement of Chicanos and Native Americans in Science (SACNAS) Student Presentation Award. She was honored for her presentation, “Profiling Enoxaparin SEC Fractions by Probing for 3-O-Sulfo Oligosaccharides Using [1H, 15N] HSQC NMR,” at the 2013 SACNAS National Conference October 3-6 in San Antonio, Texas.

SACNAS was founded 40 years ago by career academics and research scientists committed to unifying their voice and offering guidance to underrepresented students in the STEM fields. Today, the National Conference is a gathering of over 1,400 students and nearly 2,000 professionals. Taking place over three days, the conference showcases both undergraduate and graduate student presentations, and offers scientific symposia, keynote addresses, professional development sessions, and an exhibit hall in which students can interact with program representatives from colleges and universities across the nation. Among all the activities, the conference is most importantly an opportunity for students to present their research in a professional setting. In 2013, over 730 posters and 95 oral presentations were delivered at the conference.
