Spring Blooms All Around
What a beautiful Spring this is shaping up to be in Southern California with the super-bloom in full splendor and our college springing forth on so many fronts.
We have already raised $83 million of the way towards our campaign fundraising goal of $100 million. In March, a $3.5 million gift from the world’s largest food and flavors company, Givaudan, helped to protect our critically important Citrus Variety Collection.
The Multidisciplinary Research Building officially opened in January, and many of our faculty will move their labs into this state-of-the-art facility this Spring.
Our two Nobel laureates are making their presence known on campus. This April, both will speak about their experience as first-generation college students who went on to scientific greatness as part of the Science Lecture Series on campus. I will join the series for the third talk, as will our chair of Nematology, to share our experiences.
With all the First-Generation college students at UCR, we wanted to share our stories and hopefully inspire some to go on to win Nobel prizes, deanships, chairs and more!
You’ll see many more inspiring and engaging stories in this newsletter. Hope you enjoy.
