Inextricably bound up with this research is educating the students who come to CNAS to learn science, and who leave with an integrated grasp of how they can change the world. These students, and the faculty who teach them, benefit from a structure that is unique among land-grant colleges: CNAS’s 13 departments encompass the life, physical, mathematical, and agricultural sciences. This administrative unity encourages an extraordinary degree of collaboration, reflected in the 10 interdisciplinary research centers and the many cooperatively taught degree programs. Modern science is team based, and CNAS embodies that principle in everything it teaches and practices.
At the College of Natural and Agricultural Sciences, the faculty and the academic staff who join them in research have made CNAS and its programs internationally renowned. From the earliest days of the Citrus Experiment Station to today’s breakthroughs, CNAS researchers have made discoveries, made news, and been recognized by their peers as preeminent in their fields.

FORWARD program
Although UCR is well-recognized for the diversity of our student body, the diversity of our faculty does not yet mirror that of our campus. The participation of women, especially women of color, in many fields within Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines is lower than would be predicted by Ph.D. graduation rates. The FORWARD program seeks to support the professional advancement of UCR women faculty in STEM fields.
