Homecoming 2016

The BarnOn Saturday, November 19, 2016, the College of Natural and Agricultural Sciences (CNAS) hosted alumni and friends on campus in celebrating homecoming. Alumni enjoyed a full day of events including a CNAS alumni BBQ at the Barn:

10:30 a.m. - 12 noon
Faculty Panel Presentation and Public Lecture
"The Buzz about Zika, Malaria, Yellow Fever and Menacing Mosquitoes"
Faculty Panelists: Anandasankar Ray, Omar Akbari, Bill Walton, and Agenor Mafro-Neto
Location: University Theatre/HUMN 400

12 - 2 p.m.
Campus Showcase Events, Scot Fest, CNAS Tours, CNAS Department Open House
An opportunity to meet our current and prospective students, as well as faculty and staff. Tour of our newest buildings and old favorites led by CNAS Science Ambassadors.
Location: Various locations around the Bell Tower and Pierce Lawn

2 - 4 p.m.
College of Natural and Agricultural Sciences Alumni BBQ
BBQ, beer and wine. An opportunity to meet and mingle with CNAS deans, college leaders, faculty, alumni and current students. Activities and an undergraduate student research poster session.
Location: The Barn

Parking: Lot 6
Parking and admission -- free.

Alumni Profile

Zarate Sonia

Sonia Zarate, Ph.D. ’07, plant molecular biology, has been elected to the board for the Society for Advancement of Hispanics/Chicanos and Native Americans in Science (SACNAS). As a doctoral candidate at UCR, she worked in the lab of Professor of Genetics Linda Walling. Zarate serves as director of the office of undergraduate research at the University of San Diego.
